Our 5 Day Morocco Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech via Merzouga combines a guided visit of Fes with a journey across the Middle Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert and the valleys of southern Morocco.
The tour begins with a full day exploring the historic medina of Fes with a local guide. The following morning, leave Fes and travel through Ifrane, the cedar forests near Azrou, Midelt and the Ziz Valley before reaching the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga.
Instead of spending only one night in the Sahara and leaving the following morning, this itinerary includes a full day in Merzouga. Explore the desert by 4×4, visit Khamlia, meet local desert communities and enjoy time around the dunes.
From Merzouga, continue through Rissani, Erfoud and Todra Gorge to the Dades Valley. The final day takes you through the Valley of Roses, Ouarzazate and Aït Ben Haddou before crossing the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech.

Your 5 day Fes to Marrakech desert tour begins with a guided exploration of Fes, giving you time to understand the city before travelling south toward the Sahara.
After breakfast, meet your local guide and enter Fes el-Bali, the historic medina and one of the most fascinating parts of the city. Rather than trying to navigate its maze of streets alone, your guide will introduce you to its different neighbourhoods, traditional markets, historic buildings and artisan workshops.
Visit important sites such as Bou Inania Madrasa and Nejjarine Fountain and explore the area around Al Quaraouiyine. Continue through streets where craftsmen still work with brass, wood, ceramics, textiles and leather.
One of the most interesting stops is the Chouara Tanneries, where leather continues to be treated and dyed using long-established techniques.
Stop for lunch inside the medina before continuing your visit in the afternoon. Along the way, your guide will explain the history of Fes, its traditional crafts and everyday life inside the old city.
After the tour, return to your riad and enjoy a free evening.

After an early breakfast, leave Fes and begin one of the most scenic drives of the tour as you travel south toward the Sahara Desert.
The first stop is Ifrane, a mountain town in the Middle Atlas. Continue toward the cedar forests near Azrou, where Barbary macaques can sometimes be seen in their natural environment.
From here, travel through mountain landscapes toward Midelt, where you will have time for lunch.
In the afternoon, continue south through changing scenery before reaching the Ziz Valley. Stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the extensive palm oasis, with green date palms running between the surrounding rocky landscapes.
Continue through Erfoud and toward Merzouga. As you approach the village, the large golden dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to appear.
In the late afternoon, meet your camel guide and ride into the dunes. Stop on the sand to watch the sunset before continuing to your Sahara camp.
After arrival, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner. Later, gather around the campfire for music before spending the night in your private desert tent.

After breakfast, return from the camp and begin a private 4×4 tour around Merzouga. This full day gives you the opportunity to see much more than the dunes themselves.
Travel along desert tracks around Erg Chebbi and visit Khamlia, a small village known for Gnawa music. Spend time listening to local musicians and learning about the cultural traditions of the community.
Continue through the surrounding desert landscapes. Depending on local conditions and availability, you may visit a nomadic family and learn about daily life in this remote part of southeastern Morocco.
After lunch, return toward Merzouga and enjoy free time around the dunes.
You can walk on the sand, take photographs or try sandboarding. Optional quad-bike or buggy excursions can also be arranged for travelers who want an additional desert activity.
In the late afternoon, enjoy another Sahara sunset before returning to your hotel or riad.

After breakfast, leave Merzouga and continue your Sahara desert tour from Fes to Marrakech through the landscapes of southeastern Morocco.
Your first stop is Rissani, a historic trading town and an important local center for communities around the Tafilalt region. If your visit falls on a market day, you may have the opportunity to see the traditional souk.
Continue toward Erfoud, an area known for dates and fossil-rich stone, before travelling west toward Tinghir.
The landscape changes again as you approach the green palm groves surrounding Tinghir. Continue to Todra Gorge, where high limestone cliffs form one of the most impressive canyon landscapes along the route.
Take time to walk through the gorge and enjoy the scenery before stopping for lunch.
In the afternoon, continue toward the Dades Valley, passing villages, kasbahs and mountain landscapes.
Before reaching your accommodation, stop at panoramic viewpoints overlooking the valley and its unusual rock formations.

Travel through the Valley of Roses, an agricultural region known for its rose cultivation and locally produced rose products. Continue toward the palm groves of Skoura, where traditional kasbahs stand among the oasis landscapes.
The journey then takes you through Ouarzazate, a city closely connected with Morocco’s film industry.
Continue to Aït Ben Haddou, one of the most important cultural stops on the route. Explore the historic ksar on foot, walking between its traditional earthen buildings and narrow passages. From the upper sections of the village, you can enjoy views over the surrounding valley.
After lunch, begin crossing the High Atlas Mountains toward Marrakech. Travel along the Tizi n’Tichka road, with stops at panoramic viewpoints when conditions allow.
Arrive in Marrakech in the evening, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel, riad or another agreed location.
