Start in Casablanca, finish in Tangier

A private 16-day south-to-north crossing from Casablanca to Tangier — Rabat, Essaouira, Marrakech, Aït Ben Haddou, two nights in Merzouga, Fes, Volubilis and Chefchaouen.
Our 16-Day Morocco Tour from Casablanca to Tangier is a private journey across Morocco from the Atlantic coast in Casablanca to the northern city of Tangier.
Rather than following a circular itinerary and returning to the starting point, this tour moves naturally through the country. Begin with Casablanca and Rabat before travelling south along the Atlantic coast to Essaouira, then continue to Marrakech for both guided sightseeing and independent exploration.
From Marrakech, cross the High Atlas into southern Morocco — Aït Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley and Todra Gorge — before reaching Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes for two nights around the Sahara, including a private 4×4 desert tour, camel ride, sunset, desert camp and sunrise.
The journey then turns north through the Ziz Valley and Middle Atlas to Fes. After discovering Fes, Meknes and Volubilis, continue into the Rif Mountains for two nights in Chefchaouen before finishing in Tangier.

Welcome to Morocco. On arrival at Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, meet your private driver and transfer to your hotel. Because international flights arrive at different times, the first day is kept flexible — if you arrive early there can be time to begin exploring Casablanca, walk along the Corniche or enjoy your first Moroccan meal; if you arrive later, check in and rest. Your driver confirms the following day's departure time and provides any practical information before the main tour begins. Overnight: Casablanca.
After breakfast, begin with Casablanca's most recognisable landmark, the Hassan II Mosque, beside the Atlantic. Travel north to Rabat, the capital and one of the four imperial cities, exploring the Hassan Tower, Mohammed V Mausoleum and the Kasbah of the Udayas, where white-and-blue streets overlook the Bou Regreg River and the Atlantic. Compared with Marrakech and Fes, Rabat has a quieter atmosphere and a comfortable introduction to imperial-city history. Check into your riad or hotel and enjoy the evening at your own pace. Overnight: Rabat. Meals: breakfast.
After breakfast, travel south along Morocco's Atlantic side towards Essaouira. This is one of the longer transfer days, but it lets the itinerary continue naturally south without returning through Casablanca later, with stops for coffee, lunch and rest. Arrive in Essaouira in the afternoon or evening and check into your riad; depending on timing, take an introductory walk through the medina or towards the fishing port. The atmosphere is noticeably different from Casablanca and Rabat — smaller, easy to explore on foot and strongly connected to the Atlantic. Overnight: Essaouira. Meals: breakfast.
Today is dedicated entirely to Essaouira, a slower day after the previous journey. Explore the old medina with its whitewashed buildings, blue doors, workshops, galleries and traditional shops, then continue to the historic ramparts and fishing harbour, where rows of blue boats return with the day's catch and seafood lovers can choose fresh fish for lunch near the port. In the afternoon, walk along the long sandy beach or return to the medina for shopping and photography; optional surfing, kitesurfing or horse riding can be arranged depending on conditions. There's no fixed schedule, so enjoy the coast at your own pace. Overnight: Essaouira. Meals: breakfast.
After breakfast, leave Essaouira and travel inland to Marrakech, passing countryside where argan trees are common, with stops for photos or refreshments. After about three hours, arrive and check into your riad. The afternoon is free to begin exploring independently — walk towards Jemaa el-Fna, enter the surrounding souks or enjoy a rooftop café overlooking the old city — and as evening approaches, Jemaa el-Fna becomes particularly lively with food stalls, musicians and local activity. Overnight: Marrakech. Meals: breakfast. Approx. driving: 190 km / around 3 hours.
After breakfast, meet your local guide and explore the historic medina of Marrakech. Depending on opening conditions and interests, visits can include Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia area and other important historical locations. Continue on foot through traditional neighbourhoods and into the souks, where different sections specialise in leather, metalwork, spices, lamps and carpets, while your guide explains the city's history and the everyday life of the medina rather than simply moving between attractions. The guided portion normally finishes around Jemaa el-Fna, leaving the afternoon independent. Overnight: Marrakech. Meals: breakfast.
Leave Marrakech after breakfast and cross the High Atlas Mountains, following the mountain road through traditional villages, deep valleys and panoramic landscapes with viewpoint stops. Continue to Aït Ben Haddou, one of southern Morocco's best-known fortified villages, with time to explore the ksar on foot and climb higher for views across the valley. After lunch, continue to Ouarzazate, then through the Skoura region and Valley of Roses, entering the Dades Valley in the late afternoon where dramatic rock formations, kasbahs and villages line the route, with panoramic stops before reaching your hotel or riad for dinner. Overnight: Dades Valley. Meals: breakfast & dinner. Approx. driving: 320 km / around 6 hours excluding sightseeing.
After breakfast, leave the Dades Valley for Tinghir, with views over the palm oasis before continuing to Todra Gorge and time to walk beside the river between the high limestone cliffs. Continue through Tinjdad with a lunch stop, then through Erfoud — known for fossils and dates — towards Merzouga as the golden Erg Chebbi dunes appear on the horizon. Today, instead of rushing into a camel ride, check into your hotel or riad near the dunes and enjoy the afternoon or evening at a relaxed pace, preparing for a complete Sahara experience the following day. Overnight: Merzouga hotel or riad. Meals: breakfast.
After breakfast, begin a full-day exploration of the Erg Chebbi region by private 4×4 along desert tracks around the dunes. Visit Khamlia, known for its Gnawa musical traditions, with time to listen to local musicians; when circumstances allow, continue into the desert to meet a nomadic family and learn respectfully about daily life. Return towards Merzouga for lunch, with time for sandboarding and optional quad-bike or buggy excursions. Later, meet your camel guide and ride across the dunes, stopping for the sunset before continuing to your Sahara camp for dinner, traditional music and a night in a private desert tent. Overnight: Merzouga desert camp. Meals: breakfast & dinner.
Wake early for sunrise over Erg Chebbi, then after breakfast return from the camp by camel or 4×4 and begin the journey north. Stop in Rissani when timing allows before continuing through Erfoud to the Ziz Valley, with a panoramic viewpoint over the palm-filled oasis. Continue through mountain scenery to Midelt for lunch, then into the Middle Atlas with a stop near the cedar forests around Azrou where Barbary macaques can sometimes be seen, and on through Ifrane, known for its mountain architecture and green surroundings, before arriving in Fes. Overnight: Fes. Meals: breakfast. Approx. driving: 470 km / around 7–8 hours excluding stops.
After breakfast, meet your local guide and explore Fes el-Bali — a network of narrow streets, markets, workshops, historic buildings and residential neighbourhoods where many areas remain inaccessible to cars. Depending on opening times and interests, visit Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine, the area around Al Quaraouiyine and the famous Chouara Tanneries, seeing artisans working with leather, metal, wood, ceramics and textiles. Your guide explains the history of the city and its religious, commercial and cultural importance, after which you have the afternoon at your own pace. Overnight: Fes. Meals: breakfast.
After breakfast, travel to Meknes, one of the imperial cities, to explore part of its historic centre, then continue to the archaeological site of Volubilis, walking among the remains of the ancient Roman city — columns, arches and mosaic floors — for a completely different historical experience from Morocco's medinas and kasbahs. Continue north as the landscape becomes greener and more mountainous, into the Rif Mountains, arriving in Chefchaouen in the late afternoon or evening. Check into your riad and enjoy a first walk through the blue-painted medina. Overnight: Chefchaouen. Meals: breakfast.
Enjoy a complete day in Chefchaouen without any long-distance driving. After breakfast, explore the medina at your own pace — narrow blue streets and residential neighbourhoods towards Plaza Uta el-Hammam — browse small craft shops and continue to Ras El Maa at the edge of town. Photographers have plenty of time for both the well-known blue streets and quieter corners, and those who enjoy walking can continue to an elevated viewpoint over the town and the Rif. Return to the medina for lunch and a relaxed afternoon. Overnight: Chefchaouen. Meals: breakfast.
After breakfast, enjoy some final time in Chefchaouen before leaving the Rif Mountains. Travel towards Tétouan, a northern city with strong Andalusian influence, with a possible short visit or lunch depending on timing, before continuing to Tangier, where Morocco's northern coastline looks towards the Strait of Gibraltar and southern Spain. Check into your hotel or riad and enjoy a free evening — a walk through part of the old medina, a café or simply relaxing. With two nights in Tangier, there's no need to fit all the sightseeing into your arrival day. Overnight: Tangier. Meals: breakfast.
After breakfast, spend a full day discovering Tangier and its surroundings. Begin with the historic medina and Kasbah, exploring streets shaped by the city's Moroccan, Mediterranean and international history. Later, travel outside the city to Cap Spartel, one of the most scenic points along the northern coast, and continue to the Hercules Caves. Depending on your interests and time, enjoy coastal viewpoints before returning to the city, with the rest of the afternoon free for shopping, cafés or a final walk through the medina. Enjoy your final full evening in Morocco. Overnight: Tangier. Meals: breakfast.
Enjoy breakfast according to your departure schedule. If your flight or ferry leaves later, use the morning for a final walk, shopping or relaxing at your accommodation. At the appropriate time, your private driver transfers you to Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport, Tangier Ville Port or another agreed departure point. Your tour ends after crossing Morocco from the Atlantic coast through imperial cities, the Sahara, the Atlas and the Rif to the northern coast; if you're continuing to Spain by ferry, your transfer can be arranged accordingly. End of tour: Tangier. Meals: breakfast.

“The landscapes were enchanting, and the staff was helpful, polite, friendly and reliable. Our 4-day Marrakech to Sahara tour with guide Aziz was great and the van was clean and comfortable throughout.”
