Cross the High Atlas Mountains

A private 2-day Marrakech to Merzouga student tour for groups short on time — reach the Erg Chebbi Sahara for a camel ride, sunset, desert camp and sunrise.
Our 2-Day Marrakech to Merzouga Student Tour is designed for student groups who have very limited time but still want to reach the real Sahara and experience the Erg Chebbi dunes.
This is a fast-paced trip with long driving hours. You leave Marrakech early in the morning and travel across the High Atlas Mountains and southern Morocco before reaching Merzouga. In the late afternoon, ride camels across the Erg Chebbi dunes, watch the desert sunset and spend the night at a Sahara camp.
After sunrise and breakfast the following morning, you begin the return journey to Marrakech.
We recommend our 3-day or 4-day student tours whenever students have more time. However, for groups with only two available days, this private itinerary makes it possible to experience Merzouga, the camel ride and a Sahara desert camp in a short period.

Your Marrakech to Merzouga student tour starts very early with private pickup from your accommodation or agreed meeting point. Cross the High Atlas Mountains along the Tizi n'Tichka road before continuing through Ouarzazate and the landscapes of southern Morocco. Because Merzouga is far from Marrakech, today's priority is reaching the Sahara before sunset, with short stops for breakfast, lunch, photos and rest. Arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon and meet your camel guides near the Erg Chebbi dunes. Ride across the sand towards your desert camp and, when timing allows, stop on the dunes for sunset. At the camp, enjoy dinner with your group followed by traditional music around the campfire, and spend your night in the Sahara in a private desert tent. Overnight: Merzouga desert camp. Meals: dinner. Driving: approximately 9–10 hours before longer stops.
Wake early for one of the highlights of the trip: sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast at the camp, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 and meet your driver for the journey back to Marrakech. Travel through the landscapes of southeastern Morocco with short stops for coffee, lunch and rest; depending on timing and road conditions the route can include a brief stop around Rissani before continuing west towards Ouarzazate. From there, cross the High Atlas Mountains again along the Tizi n'Tichka road and arrive back in Marrakech in the evening, where your driver drops you at your accommodation or agreed meeting point. This is another long driving day, so students should be prepared for a full day on the road. End of tour: Marrakech. Meals: breakfast. Driving: approximately 9–10 hours before longer stops.

Your final tour price is confirmed based on your exact travel dates, number of travellers and accommodation category.
This itinerary is specifically for students who don't have three or four days available but still want to visit Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi Sahara while based in Marrakech.
The tour travels all the way to Merzouga, where students experience the large Erg Chebbi dunes, camel trekking and a Sahara desert camp.
The tour is private — your group travels together in a vehicle selected according to the number of participants, rather than joining unrelated travellers.
Even with limited time, the itinerary includes the most popular desert experiences: camel riding, sunset, a Sahara camp, traditional music and sunrise over the dunes.
Your one night is spent at a desert camp near the Erg Chebbi dunes. The experience includes:
Students who prefer not to ride a camel can travel between Merzouga and the camp by 4×4. Accommodation arrangements can be adapted according to the size and requirements of your student group.
Marrakech and Merzouga are far apart, so both days involve many hours of driving. We offer this itinerary because some student groups have only two days available, but we don't present it as a relaxed tour.
If your schedule allows, choose the 3-Day Morocco Student Tour for a more balanced itinerary, or the 4-Day tour for a full day in Merzouga including a 4×4 desert excursion and Khamlia.
An early departure from Marrakech is important — leaving late reduces the chance of reaching Merzouga in time for a sunset camel ride.
A small backpack with overnight essentials is recommended for the camp; your main luggage doesn't need to travel on the camel. The Sahara can get cold after sunset in winter, so bring warm clothing for the evening and early morning.
